Two similar Business Profiles do not automatically mean one should be deleted. First determine whether they represent one business, two eligible businesses or a move. A mistaken removal can affect content and access, so document the evidence before taking action.
Decision framework
| Step | Practical check |
|---|---|
| Capture both profiles | Save URLs, names, addresses, phone numbers, owners and current status. |
| Identify the real entity | Check signage, legal operation, customer access and whether the locations or businesses are distinct. |
| Choose the route | Request access, correct a move, report a duplicate or contact support based on the evidence. |
| Follow through | Record the case, public result and any review or content changes. |
How to make the decision
Google permits only one profile for a business and explains separate routes for owner conflict, merges and relocation. Do not assume matching addresses prove duplication: separate eligible businesses can operate at one address. Equally, different services from one business do not justify separate profiles. Use a decision log so the owner can explain why a profile was retained or reported.
Worked example
Illustrative Dubai studio has two listings with the same sign, phone and entrance. One is owned by a former agency and one by the business. The owner first requests access and compares the public information. The team then follows the appropriate duplicate route; it does not delete the business-owned profile merely because the older listing has more reviews.
What can change the answer
Google notes that removing a duplicate can remove content and linked managers, and a merge may affect review replies. Preserve evidence and use the official process.
Review checklist
- Are the businesses and locations truly the same?
- Is ownership known for both listings?
- Was the outcome checked publicly after the action?
Common question
Can separate services have separate profiles?
Google says services of the same business should generally be listed in one profile rather than separate profiles.
