Business Profile photos should show the place, people, products or services a customer will actually encounter. A library of authentic, current images is more useful than a set of heavily altered promotional graphics. Collect originals with dates, permissions and a clear owner.
Decision framework
| Step | Practical check |
|---|---|
| Plan photo needs | List exterior, entrance, interior, team, product and service images that answer customer questions. |
| Capture originals | Photograph the real location and activity with appropriate consent. |
| Quality check | Use in-focus, well-lit JPG or PNG files that meet current platform requirements. |
| Maintain | Retire outdated images after a move, rebrand or material service change. |
How to make the decision
Make a photo register with file name, subject, location, capture date, permission status and profile purpose. Pair each image with the customer question it answers: Can I find the entrance? What does the room look like? What product will I receive? Google says profile photos should represent reality and significant alteration is discouraged. The selected cover image may not always appear first.
Worked example
Illustrative UAE salon has eight genuine images: storefront, entrance from parking, reception, two service rooms, staff at work with consent and two product displays. A designer suggests a composite photo showing a larger salon; the owner rejects it because it would mislead visitors. The team uploads the real images and records which will need replacement after renovation.
What can change the answer
Generated or stock images are inappropriate as evidence of a real premises or team. Use authentic photographs for profile proof even if editorial blog artwork is branded.
Review checklist
- Does each photo show the current real business?
- Are permissions and capture dates recorded?
- Do files meet the current platform guidance?
Common question
Will a chosen cover photo always display first?
No. Google notes that the chosen cover photo is not guaranteed to be the first image shown.
