Two pages receiving impressions for the same query do not automatically cannibalize one another. First compare their intent, ranking windows and the page Google appears to favor, then decide whether the site has duplicate answers.
Work through the decision
Use a small, dated sample before applying the method across a whole site or team. Record the exact input and intended outcome so another reviewer can reproduce the decision. The example below illustrates the method; it is not a claimed Megvi client result.
| Step | Practical check |
|---|---|
| Export the query and pages | Use the same UAE, search type and date range in Search Console. Record clicks, impressions and dates for each page. |
| Read the pages | Check whether they answer the same task or different stages of a journey. |
| Inspect the SERP | See what kind of pages currently satisfy the query and whether the intended landing page matches. |
| Choose an action | Leave distinct pages, strengthen the intended route or consolidate overlapping answers. Recheck after recrawl. |
Worked example
Illustrative 28-day query: “CRM implementation partner” gives a service page 18 impressions and a partner-selection guide 11, with no clicks. The guide explains evaluation criteria; the service page describes Megvi’s offer. That is plausible complementary visibility. If two near-identical guides alternate for the same question and link to each other without adding value, consolidation is more defensible.
When this approach can fail
Small samples and anonymized queries limit certainty. Position changes across days can create apparent overlap without a durable problem.
Verification checklist
Save the filter settings, page pair, query intent, content difference, preferred URL and 28-day review date. Avoid declaring a winner from a handful of impressions.
Next step
When distinct pages should remain, make their intended routes clearer with How to Choose Descriptive Anchor Text in Editorial Content. To apply this to a live business, review Megvi’s SEO services and bring the current page, report or workflow plus the result you want to verify.
