A recent drop in reported conversions can reflect delayed purchases rather than weaker demand. Separate reporting lag from a real decline before changing bids or pausing a campaign.
Decision framework
| Decision | Practical check |
|---|---|
| Find the lag | Inspect Google Ads conversion delay information and the typical click-to-purchase interval. |
| Compare mature windows | Evaluate older cohorts after their normal conversion window, not yesterday against a complete month. |
| Check independent signals | Review checkout starts, orders, payment failures, stock and site errors. |
| Decide proportionately | Wait, investigate tracking or adjust the campaign based on the combined evidence. |
How to use the result
Use a cohort comparison that gives each click period the same chance to convert. Put the incomplete newest days in a separate view rather than treating them as a full result. A tracking test and order-system check should run in parallel, because conversion delay and instrumentation failure can look similar. Record when enough time has passed to make the next campaign decision.
Worked example
Illustrative store: most buyers purchase three days after a click. A Monday report for weekend clicks looks weak, but orders appear by Thursday. Comparing Monday’s incomplete ROAS with the fully matured prior week would exaggerate decline.
What can change the decision
A lag explanation should not hide a broken conversion tag or genuine site problem. Google attributes many conversions to the click date, so exports from another system may use different dates.
Review checklist
Mark the reporting cutoff, expected lag distribution, mature comparison period, tracking status and order-system check. Revisit on a stated date.
Common question
How long should we wait?
Use the observed purchase delay for that campaign and conversion action; there is no universal fixed period.

If performance still looks weaker after the lag window, plan one clear test: Planning an Ad Experiment With One Clear Decision. For help applying this to a live UAE business, see Megvi’s Google Ads service. Bring the existing store or campaign record and the decision you want to make.
