Before changing a Business Profile address, confirm that the business has actually moved and that the new address meets Google rules. Prepare customer-facing updates and evidence first. Creating a second profile for the new address can create a duplicate rather than solve the move.
Decision framework
| Step | Practical check |
|---|---|
| Confirm the move | Record the opening date, signage, customer access and whether the business still serves the old address. |
| Update owned assets | Prepare the website contact page, location page, directions, forms and notices. |
| Change the existing profile | Use the authorized profile account and follow the current edit and verification flow. |
| Verify the public result | Check Maps, Search, directions and high-use directories after the edit is processed. |
How to make the decision
Build a move checklist with old and new addresses, visible business name, phone, opening hours, map pin, evidence owner and rollback contact. If customers never visit the location, review service-area rules instead of displaying a private address. Plan for a verification request and keep the business owner able to respond to it.
Worked example
Illustrative Sharjah clinic moves to a new building on 1 November. The owner has signage and a live contact page ready, then updates the existing Business Profile. A directory still shows the old address, so the team records it as a separate correction. It does not launch another profile or announce the move complete until directions lead to the new entrance.
What can change the answer
Profile edits can take time to appear and may trigger verification. Do not remove a working old location page without considering user directions and redirects.
Review checklist
- Is the new location real and eligible?
- Does the business control the existing profile?
- Do website, profile and directions agree after the move?
Common question
Should a move create a new Business Profile?
Google says to update the existing profile when a business relocates, rather than create a new profile for the new location.
