How to Write a Creator Brief for a Product Demonstration

A useful creator brief explains what a buyer needs to see, then leaves room for a credible demonstration. A script that dictates every gesture can feel forced; a brief that says only “make it authentic” gives no way to judge whether the video answers a real product question. This guide sets out a compact brief for a product demonstration used in social advertising.

Begin with one buyer question

Pick a question a customer asks before purchase: “Will this fit my space?”, “How is it assembled?”, or “What does the material look like in normal light?” Build one video around that question. Define the product version, audience, buying stage, permitted claims and page where the viewer can verify details. If the answer needs measurements or conditions, provide them to the creator in writing.

A good demonstration shows the product doing something, not merely an attractive person holding it. Ask for a wide shot that provides context, a close shot of the important feature, and one honest limitation or fit condition where relevant. Include visible packaging, accessories or scale if these affect the buying decision.

Brief template

Field Example instruction
Buyer question Can this desk lamp illuminate a small work area?
Proof shot Show the lamp on a real desk at two brightness settings
Required fact Use the approved dimensions and power specification
Claim to avoid Do not promise medical, energy or lifespan results without evidence
Deliverables Vertical edit, clean footage, caption file and still frame
Rights and approval State usage term, placements, music rights and revision process

Give the creator the actual product, approved facts, visual examples and a way to ask questions. State whether the business may edit the footage, run it as an ad, use it on product pages and reuse it after the campaign. Confirm applicable disclosure and platform requirements with the legal and media teams. Do not ask a creator to present invented first-hand experience.

Illustrative storyboard: a compact desk lamp

Fictional product, not a Megvi client result. The first shot shows a small desk with limited space. The creator places the lamp beside a laptop, switches between two settings and shows the shadow on a notebook. A close shot shows the control and real dimensions. The closing frame invites viewers to check the full specifications. The brief asks for a natural spoken explanation in the creator’s own words, but the dimensions and included accessories must be exact.

The reviewer checks whether a buyer can answer the original question after watching on mute, whether the key claim is visible, and whether the linked product page agrees with the video. If the answer is unclear, request a specific missing shot rather than a vague “make it more engaging” revision.

Use the result as a test asset

Prepare alternate opening shots only if they test different buyer angles. Keep a record of the hook, main proof, caption, audience and landing page. The Meta creative testing guide helps design a clean comparison. Megvi’s Meta Ads service can turn a buyer question and product proof into a usable test plan. Bring the product facts, rights information and common customer objections.
