Business Profile performance and website enquiries measure different actions. A website click in a Google Business Profile report is a click from the profile; it is not a completed website enquiry. A call-button click is not evidence of a connected conversation. Keep these steps separate to make local search reporting useful.
How to make the decision
Create a monthly table for profile views, website clicks, call clicks, direction requests, website sessions from the profile where identifiable, form submissions and verified enquiries. Use the same location and date range for each report. Mark metrics whose collection method differs, including profile actions that may include ad activity. Add trackable website links where appropriate and test the landing page. If calls matter, reconcile call-button clicks with a call log or phone system. Do not add profile clicks to analytics sessions as if they were independent people.
Worked example
Illustrative two-location clinic: Location A shows 60 profile website clicks, 42 identifiable website sessions, five forms and three verified appointments. Location B shows 40 call clicks but no call-log export. The report can explain A’s path through appointment, while B’s call outcome is unknown. The team fixes B’s call logging and checks whether the linked location page answers opening hours and directions before judging performance.
What to verify
- Is each location reported separately?
- Are profile interactions distinct from site sessions?
- Are form and call outcomes verified?
- Have reporting windows and source definitions been saved?
Limits and ownership
Google says only metrics applicable to a profile appear and Business Profile performance is available for verified profiles. Do not treat a missing metric as zero demand.
What to hand over
Keep a simple definition beside every reported metric, including what a click represents and which system collected it. Give the location manager a list of unverified calls and enquiries to check. The next improvement may be a better landing page or call process rather than another profile post.
Common question
Why do profile website clicks exceed tracked sessions?
Different systems count different events, and redirects, consent or browser behavior can interrupt session attribution. Investigate the path before labeling it a tracking failure.
