Name, address and phone consistency begins with the real business record, not with copying one spelling across every directory. A location move, a legal-name difference or a service-area business can make a mechanical matching exercise misleading. Check what customers should see and what Google permits.
Decision framework
| Step | Practical check |
|---|---|
| Define the current record | Confirm the real-world name, customer-facing address or service area, and main phone. |
| List important surfaces | Review the website contact page, Business Profile and directories customers actually use. |
| Classify differences | Separate material errors from harmless formatting variants. |
| Correct in order | Fix the primary source and high-visibility listings, then verify the live result. |
How to make the decision
Use a simple discrepancy sheet: surface URL, displayed name, address or service area, phone, issue type, correction owner and checked date. A suite-number omission may confuse visitors; a punctuation difference may not. For a service-area business, check whether its address should be hidden rather than forcing a street address into every listing.
Worked example
Illustrative Dubai showroom moves from Unit 12 to Unit 18 in the same building. The website and profile show Unit 18, while a widely used map listing still shows Unit 12. The team marks the discrepancy as customer-impacting, updates the listing through its legitimate workflow and checks the public result. It does not rename the business to include a keyword.
What can change the answer
Do not edit a real profile or directory without authorization. Search engines may show third-party data temporarily after a correction.
Review checklist
- Is the current real-world record documented?
- Are corrections prioritized by customer impact?
- Was each important listing rechecked after the edit?
Common question
Do minor abbreviations always need correction?
No. Focus on differences that misrepresent the business or send customers to the wrong place.
