View-through credit indicates that a platform associated a later action with an ad impression even without a recorded click. It can be useful context, but it does not prove the impression caused the sale. Separate reporting credit from incremental impact and compare it with your own order records.
Decision framework
| Step | Practical check |
|---|---|
| Record settings | Capture the current attribution and reporting windows before exporting results. |
| Separate paths | Show click-associated and view-associated outcomes where the interface allows, without adding overlapping totals. |
| Reconcile orders | Match date, value and unique order ID to the store or CRM. |
| Choose a decision | Ask whether changing spend requires a controlled test or simply a reporting note. |
How to make the decision
Build a monthly bridge table: platform-reported results, verified orders, any duplicated IDs and the proportion with no attributable click in the available report. Explain that the systems use different rules and may assign one order to multiple touchpoints. Use the bridge to decide what needs investigation; use an experiment when the business needs causal evidence.
Worked example
Illustrative UAE accessories store: Meta reports 32 purchases, including eight with view-through credit. The store has 29 paid orders during the comparison period. Two platform events share the same order ID and one order was refunded. The team corrects the event issue and reports platform credit beside net paid orders instead of claiming that eight extra sales were created by impressions.
What can change the answer
Cross-platform totals are not additive. Do not treat a view-through number as fraud or as proof of incremental value without further evidence.
Review checklist
- Were attribution settings saved with the report?
- Can the order list explain duplicates and refunds?
- Is causal language reserved for an appropriate test?
Common question
Should view-through conversions be ignored?
No. They can inform a broader picture, but should be labelled as attribution credit and checked against verified outcomes.
