“Discovered – currently not indexed” means Google knows a URL but has not indexed it. Before requesting indexing, check whether the page is accessible, useful and intended to be indexed. A request does not guarantee crawling or inclusion.
The decision sequence
Begin with a real buyer or team task and keep the relevant source record. The worksheet below is meant to expose a decision that someone can check, rather than replace specialist review or claim a Megvi client result.
| Decision point | What to check |
|---|---|
| Inspect the URL | Use Search Console URL Inspection to confirm the reported state, last crawl details where available and live-test access. |
| Check technical signals | Verify HTTP status, robots restrictions, noindex, canonical, redirects and whether important content is available in rendered HTML. |
| Assess the page | Compare it with near-duplicates and confirm it answers a distinct task with useful internal links. |
| Fix then request | Correct the issue first. Request indexing for important individual URLs, submit a sitemap for larger sets and monitor later. |
Worked example
Illustrative worksheet: URL A returns 200, self-canonical and offers a unique product comparison but has no contextual internal link; add a useful link from the category. URL B is a near-copy of another guide; consolidate it rather than repeatedly request indexing. URL C has a noindex tag; remove it only if publication is intended.
What could change the decision
Search Console reports and live tests can differ because they represent different moments. A successful live test does not prove the URL has entered the index.
Review before using it
For each URL, record inspection date, status, canonical, indexability, content distinction, internal link source, action owner and recheck date.
Next useful step
If the inspected URL has an unexpected canonical, use How to Compare Google’s Selected Canonical With Your Intended URL. For help with a live implementation, see Megvi’s SEO service. Bring the current page, workflow or evidence record and the decision you need to make.
Platform reference: Google Search Central: Ask Google to recrawl your URLs, checked 22 October 2026. Search Console data can lag the live page, so record both the inspection date and the current page state.
