Start Google Shopping feed optimization with the products that are missing, limited, or misleading. More title keywords cannot fix a rejected product or a landing page whose price and stock disagree with the feed. Merchant Center’s “Needs attention” area and a source-to-page comparison give a practical order of work.
Build a product issue list
Export affected product IDs, issue type, destination, status, and last update from Merchant Center. Group issues by cause: missing required data, price or availability mismatch, image problem, policy review, and feed processing. Select one product from each group and compare its feed row with the live landing page. Google’s product data specification defines the attributes and warns that inaccurate or missing data can limit eligibility or cause disapproval.
A worked correction example
This is an illustrative test row, not a real Megvi client feed. Suppose product ID BAG-42 is marked in stock in the feed, while the selected red variant is unavailable on the page. Do not merely change a title. Check whether the feed references the parent or the red variant, update the source inventory mapping, and ensure the landing page opens the corresponding purchasable option. Resubmit or refresh the data source, then verify that Merchant Center has processed the correction. Record the before/after product ID and status; a correction can take time to appear.
Google’s approval guidance recommends consistent product data and landing-page information. The variant URL guide helps identify when a selected option needs its own stable URL. Fix the source system where possible so the next feed sync does not recreate the issue.
Then improve useful product data
For eligible products, write a title that identifies the item and its important real attributes, and make the image show the actual product without promotional overlays. Keep price, currency, stock, shipping and returns aligned with the page. Check item-group and variant attributes where relevant. Do not invent a brand, material, or delivery promise to fill a field. Product data and structured data on the page can complement one another; Google’s ecommerce product-data guidance explains those paths.
| Priority | Test | Evidence |
|---|---|---|
| Eligibility | Resolve disapprovals and missing required attributes | Issue list and product status |
| Accuracy | Match variant, price, stock and shipping to page | Feed row and landing-page capture |
| Clarity | Improve factual title and image | Before/after product record |
| Campaign | Review products by value and margin | Verified orders, not feed clicks alone |
Measure the correction
Track eligible products and remaining issue types before judging clicks or purchases. A newly approved product may still need a relevant campaign and competitive offer to earn sales. Compare confirmed orders, cost, and gross margin using a consistent time window; use the ROI calculator only for a planning scenario. For feed-to-campaign work, discuss Google Ads with Megvi.
